Graeme’s Pedal for Pounds 10.5
On Friday 6 May and Saturday 7 May 2022, Practice Principal, Graeme will be taking part in Pedal for Pounds 10.5.
‘P4P 10.5’ is a sponsored cycle ride arranged by Huddersfield Town to raise money and awareness for four tremendous local charities; the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Huddersfield Town Foundation, The Kirkwood, and Platform 1 men’s mental health charity.
Graeme will be cycling from Huddersfield to Harrogate and back in the 2 days and will cycle between 98 and 130 miles (route depending). Graeme has been training hard over the past few months to get ‘up to speed’ as this will be the first long ride he has completed.
Graeme has set up a Just Giving page for anybody wishing to sponsor him. If you wish to support Graeme and donate towards the 4 incredible charities, please visit www.justgiving.com/p4pgraemetattersfield.
Petra’s Virtual London Marathon
On Sunday 3rd October 2021, Lead Dental Nurse Petra took part in the Virtual London Marathon.
Petra raised a grand total of £900 for two charities: Brain Tumour Research and Action Against Cancer. Petra chose these two charities as they are very close to the hearts of her and her friends and family.
Team TD made sure Petra was not alone for the marathon and she was joined on the day by Kate, Andy, Caroline, Gail, Karen and James at various points on the journey (and of course a celebratory glass of fizz and a Krispy Kreme at the end).
Petra completed the marathon in a very impressive 4 hours, 32 minutes and 20 seconds. Huge congratulations once again, Petra!
Virtual Big Sleep Out 2021
On Friday 12th March 2021, Team TD took part in their third Big Sleep Out. Things were a little different this time around though! Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not possible for the event to take place as normal at the John Smith’s Stadium. In 2021, the event was now to be held from participants own gardens, sheds and garages!
This made the challenge even tougher as this year, Team TD were alone rather than together. Graeme and Jenny took part in their garage at home, Andy T took part in his garage at home, James took part down a footpath at the side of his house and Karen took part in a tent in her garden.
It was an extremely wet and cold March night, however we’re delighted to announce that Team TD completed the challenge safely and successfully!
Team TD raised a total of £816.13 in total which brings our Big Sleep Out total over the 3 years to an impressive £4780.70. A massive thank you to everybody who has donated, supported, and taken part in any of our events. Roll on 2022 (hopefully back at the John Smith’s Stadium)!
Wear Blue Day 2021
On Friday 29th January, Team TD took part in the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s ‘Wear Blue Day’ for the second year running.
Sadly, things were slightly different to the previous year due to the restrictions created by the coronavirus pandemic. This meant we weren’t able to do everything we had planned for which included hosting a blue bake sale for the day. However, never one to shy away from a challenge, Team TD adapted! Similarly to the previous year, we changed our logo blue for the day across social media and within the practice, we wore blue and decorated the practice blue. We even created an online #WearBlue quiz for our patients and the local community could take part in.
We raised £56.00 in total for the Foundation. More information on the Town Foundation’s successful day and Wear Blue campaign for 2020 can be found here: https://www.htafcfoundation.com/2021/02/02/wear-blue-day-a-thank-you-from-the-town-foundation/.
Christmas 2020
Each December, Team TD decide to put together into a collection to donate to a charity and cause rather than send Christmas cards to one another.
In December 2020, Team TD donated £168.75 to Motor Neurone Disease Association and £100.00 to the Town Foundation’s ‘Buy a Bauble’ campaign.
A £100 donation to the Town Foundation allows the Foundation to provide a healthy breakfast for 333 children at their Early Kick Off Breakfast Clubs, allow them to deliver eight group activity sessions for older adults to reduce loneliness and isolation and also buy 12 training footballs to allow young people to engage in sporting activity.
If you visited the practice in December 2020, you may have noticed our coronavirus themed ‘Christmas tree’ in our reception area. It wasn’t us panic buying toilet roll, we promise!
The whole day was a success as we raised £126.60 for the Foundation. More information on the Town Foundation’s successful day and Wear Blue campaign for 2020 can be found here: https://www.htafcfoundation.com/2020/02/04/the-town-foundations-wear-blue-day-was-a-success/.
Big Sleep Out 2020
On Friday 6th March 2020, Team TD took part in their second Big Sleep Out.
The John Smith’s Stadium opened its doors once again to host the event designed to raise money and awareness for causes supporting homeless charities across Kirklees.
Rolling out their sleeping bags from Team TD was James, Karen, Katie, Graeme, Jenny, Helen, Petra, Gaynor and Lorraine.
Team TD were intent on smashing their previous record of donations from 2019 so wanted to increase the awareness of the event. In the months leading up to the event we had a bingo draw to raise money and awareness for the event. In the week leading up to the event, your eyes did not deceive you as our non-clinical members of Team TD wore their pyjamas at the practice throughout the day!
The event was a huge (and very cold) success and every member of the team who took part were stars. Team TD raised a total of £2008.47 for the event. A huge thank you once again to everybody who donated and supported us during this event. We really appreciate everybody’s kindness and generosity.
Wear Blue Day 2020
On Friday 31st January, Thornhill Dental turned blue for the day! Team TD took part in the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s inaugural ‘Wear Blue Day’.
The Wear Blue Day was created to support Foundation initiatives such as the ‘Early Kick-Off’ Breakfast Clubs, which provides children at 41 schools a healthy and nutritious start to the day.
Thornhill Dental took part in a number of ways. We changed our logo from our infamous purple to blue for the day, we wore blue for the day and hosted a blue themed cake and goodies sale on the day. We were joined by Lisa Bottomley and Janet Hoyle from the foundation during the day to say hello and to sample some of our culinary skills!
Thornhill Dental Midnight Walk
On Friday 4th October 2019, Team TD hosted and took part in Thornhill Dental’s Midnight Walk to raise awareness and funds for two mental health charities; Andy’s Man Club and Leeds Mind. These two charities were chosen as they hold a special place in the hearts of many here at Thornhill Dental.
A total of 24 walkers took part in the event which consisted of; members of the Thornhill Dental team, friends, family and patients.
The aim of the charity 10km walk from Thornhill Dental to Emley Moor Mast was not only to raise funds for two extremely worthy charities but more importantly, to help spread some very important messages; mental health matters and ‘it’s okay to talk’.
We are pleased to announce following a successful evening, we raised a grand total of £1426.58 for Andy’s Man Club and Leeds Mind.
A huge thank you to everybody for their support in this event!
Andy’s Pedal for Pounds 10
In April 2019, Practice Manager, Andy Tattersfield took part in Huddersfield Town’s Pedal for Pounds 10.
The tough 4-day cycling event saw Andy and approximately 200 cyclists cycle a total of 530km starting in Zeebrugge, Belgium, going through the Netherlands and all the way back to Huddersfield.
We’re pleased to announce that Andy raised a grand total of £1669.25! A huge, huge thank you to every single person who sponsored Andrew or any other cyclists who took part in the event.
All of the money raised by the cyclists went to four extremely worthy causes in Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Ruddi’s Retreat, Kirkwood Hospice and The Huddersfield Town Foundation Breakfast Clubs.
Jennifer’s Great North Run
On 8th September 2019, Jennifer took part in the world’s largest half marathon, The Great North Run.

Gill’s Aspire Swimming Challenge
During winter 2019, Gill took part in the Aspire Channel Swim 2019, swimming the distance of the English Channel over 12 weeks and raised over £600 for Aspire.
Gill explains ‘Every four hours someone is paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice and housing that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.’
The Big Sleepout 2019
On Friday 8th March 2019, Team TD took part in The Big Sleep Out 2019.
In the UK there are around 320,000 people living on the streets – a number which has risen by 4% in the last year. To try and help make a real difference in the local community and to tackle the issue, the Huddersfield Town Foundation proudly hosted its second Big Sleep Out.
On Friday 8th March 2019, The John Smith’s Stadium opened its doors to raise money for causes supporting homeless people in our local community under the banner of the Town Foundation.
James, Andy T, Karen, Faye, Andy W, Jennifer, Petra and Gaynor from Thornhill Dental braved the outdoors to raise awareness and money for an extremely important cause.
We’re super proud to announce our grand total raised for The Big Sleepout was £1911.10.
The money raised is distributed by The Huddersfield Town Foundation to local charities tackling homelessness. In 2018’s event, the charities included Huddersfield Mission, Batley care and drop-in, Batley Food Bank, Dewsbury Baptist Church, One Big Family and The Welcome Centre.
We’re thrilled to have been able to support these local charities with the fantastic and vital work they do within our community.
Dentaid
It is a sad fact that many people in the UK do not access regular dental care. Many homeless and vulnerable people aren’t registered with a dentist and live with severe dental pain and infections, often masked by drugs or alcohol.
Furthermore, 40% of children in the UK do not receive regular dental check-ups or oral health education.
In February 2019, Dentaid’s mobile unit was in Kirklees offering free dental care for people suffering with dental pain. Throughout the week, Thornhill Dental’s Graeme, Rana and Jonathan were at Thornhill Lees Community Centre volunteering their help.
A huge thank you to Graeme, Rana and Jonathan for their contributions with Dentaid, it is extremely kind of you all! A big thank you also to Sue Baker for coordinating the event and inviting us!
To find out more about the wonderful work Dentaid do, visit https://www.dentaid.org/our-mission/.
Christmas Foodbank Donations
Every year at Thornhill Dental, instead of sending Christmas cards to each other within the team, we pledge to donate the money we would spend on Christmas cards to charity instead.
In December 2018, we decided to put the money together and to buy some Christmas goodies such as mince pies, Christmas cakes, selection boxes and boxes of chocolates to donate to Batley Food Banks and Huddersfield Welcome Centre.
Batley Food Banks and Huddersfield Welcome Centre are two fantastic local charities who collect and donate food to families who are in crisis.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 28th September 2018, Thornhill Dental hosted its own Macmillan Coffee Morning and raised a total of £466.57 for Macmill.
Thanks again to everyone who either baked, attended, donated or supported in any way. We hope that everybody brushed their teeth after the event!
Fans for Foodbanks
As of September 2018, we are delighted to announce we are a collection point for the #FansForFoodbanks initiative!
This fantastic joint initiative between The Huddersfield Town Foundation and The Huddersfield Town Supporters Association aims to help people within our community who need assistance.
Can’t make it to a Huddersfield Town match? No problem! Our collection point will be accessible in our waiting rooms during opening hours and we will be taking donations along each home match.

On Saturday 21 March 2015, Team TD took part and sponsored The Huddersfield Town Foundation’s Walk for Pounds event.
Walk for Pounds was 19 mile walk from Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s airbase at Nostell Air Support Unit in Wakefield to the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. The half way check point was at Thornhill Dental where we provided hot drinks and snacks for the 200 walkers.

Team TD raised over £1,100 for through sponsorship. A huge thank you to everybody for their messages of support, their sponsorship and most importantly all of the walkers who took part in the hugely successful event. We’re told the blisters and sore legs were totally worth it!
